Glam Prep!

The most common question we get is, “Do I need to do anything to prep my skin and hair for my appointment?” So, we are here to give you the low-down on getting ready for the getting ready!

HAIR

Properly prepping your hair for your styling appointment is crucial, so we asked Carly Henschel, Lead Hairstylist for Set & Fury, what her top suggestions are!

Thick, curly, frizzy hair types:

  • This hair type does require maintenance. Prepping your hair the night before with your favorite professional products will help to eliminate frizz and be style-friendly the day of your appointment. We advise AGAINST any gel, mousse, or other styling products that would cause the curl to become stiff or resist styling! If you do fall under this hair-type category and want your style to be sleek and smooth, booking a blow-out appointment with us the day before for optimal results is highly advised/required!

If your wavy hair has been straightened with a flat iron prior to your appointment:

  • Re-washing your hair will be best in this situation as it will not hold curl! Additionally, we are big fans of second-day (NOT dirty!) hair, especially in the dry desert climate of Las Vegas. With the absence of humidity, styles tend to hold better, last longer, and look better!

Flat, straight hair types:

  • This hair type can often have difficulty holding curl. Clip-in, human hair extensions can be a great way to help hold curl and give your hair more body and length (check out Bellami extensions for an excellent color, length, and weight selection! Use coupon code Setandfury10) Keep in mind that using heavy shampoos with moisturizing components can weigh-down the hair and make it more difficult to style. Clarifying, volumizing shampoos and products are the way to go for our silky-haired clients…and remember, professional products are professional for a reason!

Naturally oily hair types:

  • This hair type can get flat and greasy quickly! In this case, we suggest washing and blow-drying your hair the day-of. Use clarifying shampoos and very light conditioners. (Not using the proper product can also be reasons why your hair gets oily quickly!)

And a few tips for everyone:

  • Come with dry hair to your appointment, unless you booked a blowout

  • No gel, mousse, hairspray, or other products that can stiffen the hair. A little leave-in conditioner is ok, but we will take care of the rest for you!

  • Clip-in extensions/halos must be human hair only and must be washed and laid flat to dry prior to installation!

  • Clip-in extensions are required for Signature Hollywood Waves!

SKIN & MAKEUP

Having clear, radiant, and plump skin for your appointment is always ideal. But achieving that could mean a bit of mindfulness. Here are some tips and tricks from Owner & Lead Makeup Artist Emily Caitlan for ensuring healthy, beautiful skin for your appointment!

  • Ensure that any facials, brow waxing/plucking, or esthetician-approved treatments are done no less than 1-week before your appointment. Extractions, peels, and lasers can cause the skin to become irritated or break-out prone, so giving your skin the week to heal will help immensely.

  • Toners, moisturizers, and eye creams are always lovely to do the night before your appointment. Lightly moisturizing the day-of your appointment is absolutely fine!

If you have been having funny breakouts lately and can’t put your finger on what the culprit could be, here are a few factors that you may not have thought of:

  • A lack of flossing can cause you the jawline/cheek breakout. Bacteria on the inside of the mouth can affect the skin directly touching the teeth.

  • Heavy, inexpensive shampoos, conditioners, and other hair products can cause hairline, cheek, and back/chest breakouts. These products often coat the hair with a film, and this film can easily clog the pore and act as a skin irritant.

  • Don’t wear necklaces in the shower! This has been proven to cause chest/back breakouts as well.

And last but certainly not least, drink plenty of water the days leading up to your appointment! Hydration on the inside is abundantly apparent on the outside. The inevitable dryness of the Las Vegas desert, enjoying cocktails at the center bar, and the stressors of traveling can definitely add-up. Consuming lots of water helps to flush toxins and keep you glowing!

AIRBRUSH TANS

Our #1 recommendation for booking a tan for your wedding day, engagement shoot, or special occasion, is to ensure that you are able to get at least 2 showers in before putting on that special outfit or wedding gown!
